Volunteering at 6th Annual Sushi Sake Fest!

On October 30th, the 6th Annual Sushi Sake Fest was held at the Westin Hotel in Downtown Seattle, in hopes of raising funds for the Densho Legacy Project. If you were part of NikkeiSA last year, I'm sure you know what Densho is. But for those who aren't familiar with it, Densho is a non-profit organization led by Tom Ikeda that is trying to preserve the testimonials of Japanese Americans who were incarcerated during WWII. They've been filming each interview, and they have a quite large collection now. Anyway, for the past 6 years, Densho has been hosting this event at which people try out a variety of sushi from various restaurants in the Greater Seattle regions and taste yummy Sake and Beer.

Kohane and I volunteered, and I truly had a great time! It was so amazing to see how many people came to support Densho. I mean, the ballrooms were literally packed with people from beginning till the end! I sold raffle tickets and helped seat sponsors to their tables. I recognized a lot of the people...Sheldon Arakaki (the JACL President), the Consul General, numerous politicians, people from the JCCCW, etc... It is needless to say how great Sushi was! Mmmmmm......I wish I could have that everyday.

This Sunday, several of us will be volunteering at the "Bunka no Hi" Cultural Fest at the Japanese Cultural and Community Center from 2-5PM!
If you are free that day, you should definitely stop by :)

~Lisa [President]
